Create Your Own Journal

A day of creativity, confidence & mindful self-expression

9:00am – 2:00pm
πŸ“ Art Studio, Bay Road Collective
πŸ₯ͺ BYO recess & lunch

These school holidays, children aged 8–12 are invited to spend a nourishing, creative day at the Art Studio, Bay Road Collective, making their very own journal while building confidence, focus, and self-expression in a supportive environment.

This workshop blends art-making, mindfulness, and play, offering kids a balanced day that supports both creativity and emotional wellbeing.

What your child will do

In the morning, children will:

  • Design and hand-make their own personal journal

  • Explore creative techniques such as drawing, collage, colour, and pattern

  • Use age-appropriate prompts to reflect, imagine, and express ideas

  • Learn simple mindfulness practices to support calm focus and emotional awareness

In the afternoon, the group will enjoy:

  • Light, structured games and creative play

  • Opportunities to connect, move, and relax after focused creative time

  • A gentle close to the day, supporting an easy transition home

Each child leaves with a completed, one-of-a-kind journal they can continue using for writing, drawing, reflection, or creative play.

Why journaling is valuable for children (8–12 years)

This age group is developing a stronger sense of self, independence, and emotional awareness.

Journaling, introduced creatively, can help children to:

  • 🧠 Build confidence by trusting their ideas and decisions

  • πŸ’¬ Express thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental way

  • 🌿 Improve focus and emotional regulation through mindfulness practices

  • 🎨 Strengthen creativity without pressure or comparison

  • 🌈 Develop a sense of ownership and pride in something they’ve created

The workshop is guided gently, without expectation of β€œtalent” or outcomes, supporting children to feel capable, calm, and confident in their own way of working.

What to bring

  • BYO recess and lunch
